Preparing for the Werribee Craft Festival: Behind the Scenes

A market stall looks simple from the aisle: products arranged on tables, a few signs and someone ready to talk. Behind the scenes, preparation has a lot more moving parts. For the Werribee Craft Festival on 6–7 November 2026, we have been planning printed stock, product displays, power requirements, signage and how to explain custom services to visitors.

As a studio that works across digital design and hands-on manufacturing, the interesting challenge is presenting an enormous range of possibilities in a small physical space. A table cannot show every custom print we could make, so each displayed piece needs a purpose.

Choosing a balanced range of models

Our print queue has included small animals, articulated pieces, detailed resin sculptures, dragons, elephants and personalised figures. Small models give visitors something affordable to examine, while larger display pieces demonstrate detail, design and finishing.

It is tempting to print only elaborate “hero” models. A better mix considers time per print, how much material is used, what fits on the table, and whether visitors understand what is being offered. Personalised orders need to be clearly distinguished from ready-to-take-home stock.

Planning the stall around the customer experience

Multi-colour 3D printing setup used to prepare custom models and market stock

We have been working through a three-table layout, fabric coverings, upright holders, information cards and a coherent way to present the machinery and finished objects. Products need to be visible, reachable and protected from accidental knocks.

There is also a practical story to tell: a photo can become a 3D model, a digital design can become a physical print, and a simple name or logo can become an engraved object. Good signage should explain those choices in seconds.

Production and quality control before the event

Each print has its own risks, from bed adhesion and filament feeding to resin supports and colour-change planning. Rather than treating a successful slice preview as a finished product, we inspect the first layers and verify the final result.

Preparation includes realistic time allowances, equipment checks and test-and-tag arrangements for electrical items that may be used at the venue. We also review packaging and stock lists before loading the car.

What visitors can ask us about

Beyond the models on display, we can discuss custom pet figurines, scenic bases, decorative collectables, names and plaques, small-batch prints, and future design commissions. We can also explain the trade-offs between multi-colour PLA and detailed resin options.

If an item is not on the table, that does not mean it cannot be considered. An idea, sketch or photograph is often enough to start a project discussion, with pricing and lead time confirmed after reviewing the brief.

A useful reminder for other makers

Preparing for a market makes the business side of creative work visible. Making the product is one task; presenting it, costing it, communicating clearly and managing production capacity are just as important.

We will continue using those lessons to refine our online shop and custom-order systems after the event. This post documents the preparation stage, not an outcome or attendance result.

Will every displayed model be available for immediate purchase?

No. Some display pieces demonstrate custom production and may be made to order, depending on the model and current stock.

Can customers request something not shown at the stall?

Yes. We can review reference images, dimensions and the intended purpose, then advise on design and production feasibility.
